We got up really, really early this morning!  The plan was to meet Greg and Emmanuel in Rhuengeri (sp?).  We left at 5:30am in order to get out of town before the mandatory work day for Rwanda.  If we didn’t reach our destination by 8:00am, we could have been stopped and put to work on a project.  Apparently the last Saturday of the month everyone is required to work 1/2 a day 8-12noon doing work projects, clean up etc.  It is actually a great idea!

We got to where they were before 8 and had breakfast.  It was a long, windy roady with potholes, near misses, and we found out why there are no lines in the middle of the road.  They don’t use them so why bother!  It was a wild ride to say the least.

After breakfast we once again got in the vehicles and drove further north to Gesenyi where Greg spoke to some pastors.  It was wonderful to watch the two of them together.  Greg would say a sentence and move a certain way, and there would be Emmanuel interpreting with his language, but exactly the same body language.  They are a great team.  I was reminded of the poem ”I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me…”   We then visited the Bible Institute which is actually about a High School level.  They were honored that we came and Greg was able to leave some books with them for their library.

After lunch we drove down to Lake Kivu.  Emmanuel arranged for us to change our clothes at a wonderful hotel there on the lake, and use the beach.  It is a beautiful lake surrounded by mountains.  Then we got in the cars again for a 3 1/2 hour ride home~!  The scenery is beautiful along the way, although it was sometimes hard to enjoy when we worried about the driving!  At one point we almost got rear-ended by the other car – by the Grace of God we were all safe.  Thanks for the prayers for safety.  We certainly needed it yesterday.  To add to the situation we were still driving at dark and then the rains came.  When it rains here, it is not a little sprinkle like in Oregon/Washington.  It pours!! But we all made it safely back, had a late dinner, and collapsed in bed.

While we were  gone, Arlene, Pastor Deo and Augustine visited Central Prison.  About 600 men and women came to hear the message.  There are 4000 in that prison currently.  There were about 50 that made a decision for Christ.  The ties, scarves and the bibles brought such smiles and excitement to the prisoners.  The need is sometimes overwhelming.  Arlene is pleased to know that she is doing all she can to help.

We’re reading your blog. It’s good to keep up. Can’t wait to have you home and hear the stories, see the photos.

We had a week with the pastoral candidate and his family. Everyone really likes them and there is an excitement for the future.

We’re praying for you. Keep up the good work and finish as strong as you started–maybe stronger.
