» Preaching, Sewing and Woodworking
Things started off a little slow this morning. Shortly after breakfast Emmanuel and Steve Emerson headed to the airport to rescue our bins of scarves and ties and sewing supplies. Steve got a lesson in third world bureaucracy but him and Emmanuel managed to get the bins safely back to the guest house. Needless to say, we didn’t leave for Kabuga, the site of the sewing room, and future woodworking shop till about 12 noon. Krysti and Debbie got such a lovely, warm welcome from 13 of the sewing ladies from last year. They were so excited about them being there again, and helping them get going with a shop in Kigali. After lunch we had about 2 hours to just talk about their future, their ideas and plans. We were able to talk about how to get more business and what things they are interested in doing. It is exciting to see their enthusiasm and hope for the future.
The men, on the other hand, (Steve, Ron, John, Mike, Emmanuel, and the other Steve) along with Gaston, the caretaker of ERM’s Kabuga, site went over plans for the woodworking shop. There were a lot of longstanding questions answered and they were able to mark the area where the building will be.
The team, as well as some of the woodworking students and ERM staff prayed over the site, and committed the land and its uses to Christ. Although the day consisted of a lot of sitting and waiting, there was much accomplished and we all came back tired.
Arlene spoke to 4,500 prisoners and killers today at Ntsinda, one of the world’s largest prisons. Her message was powerful, calling criminals to take responsibility for their actions and repent of their sins. Many tears were shed and lives changed. God moved in a powerful way in the prison today.
The hero of the day, is Mike, who was a pro at reeling the tape measure after measuring the site for the woodworking building in spite of the fact that he may have injured his preaching arm.
