» Akagera National Park

Saturday we spent the day at Akagera national park. We got up bright and early and ate breakfast by 5:30am and were on our way by 6:00am.

Never in my life would i have thought that i’d be on an african safari, but about half way through the day i realized that i was doing  just that. Crazy. We drove around the park over the bumpy roads and even got stuck in the mud at one point. It was ‘no problem’ all of the men just got out of the van and pushed it and we were on our way again down the bumpy roads. I kept having to remind myself that i wasnt in a zoo, and these animals were native.

We saw giraffes and little monkeys and brush buck and reed buck and antelope and eagles and baboons, who were particularly friendly to us when we were looking at the hippos. One baboon actually jumped up into the driver’s lap inside the van while were where sitting there by the lake, the diver who was scared to death, simply shoved the animal back outside. To hear the full story told by Mike, check out his blog entry  A Baboon wants to Drive.

We ate a late lunch at the Hotel in the park and a few of the team members were pleasantly surprised that when the ordered a Hamburger, they got a real American style hamburger. Then we drove back here to the guest house.

Today, most of the team went to one of the local churches. Steve Lawrence went with Tom, a man who’s been interpereting for us all week, to his church where Steve preached a powerful sermon. Tom said that the response was awesome.

After church this morning, most of the team went to the Church of Pastor Clement, who has also been interperating for us this week. A few of us stayed back at the guest house, myself, and Emmanuel and Arlene are getting a little sick so we stayed back to rest a little. Pray for health as the trip wraps up for some of us pretty soon.

Shelli, for the team.
